ATC Water Heater Uses

Having a constant supply of water is vital and this is why most people require water heating appliances such as ATC water heaters. Ireland, the United States, and most other European countries always require hot water for things such as cooking, bathing, cleaning, space heating, etc.

Compared to natural gas heaters, water heaters such as the ATC undersink water heater option also have the added benefit of exploiting gas or electric energy at a much more reduced rate. In addition, an ATC water heater also comes with the ability to collect and store heated water for future use.

Despite the costlier price of ATC water heaters (Ireland) compared to other natural gas water heating appliances, the electric usage of an ATC water heater is still far less than what a natural gas water heater will use.

How do Gas and Electric Water Heaters Work?

Gas Water Heaters

Gas powered water heaters gave cold water brought into the tank through the use of dip tubes. This water is then heated with a gas burner that releases extremely hot but toxic air up through a chimney-like structure in the middle of the tank.

This chimney then proceeds to move this toxic air outside while simultaneously heating the metal of the chimney. When this chimney heats up, the water surrounding it is heated as well. Once the heat rises, the water heater uses this to bring the warm water through the plumbing of the house it is attached to.

Since hot water rises to the top of the water heater’s tank and is moved throughout the home through the heat-out pipe, as the user opens the faucet for hot water, cool water is brought in by the dip tube. This displaces the hot water and pushes it through the heat-out pipe.

Users often have the option to set the temperature that they would like the water to be through a thermostat control system that is connected to the gas line. This brings in the right amount of gas to the burner to reach the desired temperature.

Electric Water Heater

ATC water heater appliances such as the ATC 10-litre undersink water heater and ATC Z10-U undersink water heater work essentially the same way as a gas heater would. The ATC water heater will bring in cold water through a dip tube and heat it using the electric heating elements that are present inside of the water heater tank.

The hot water will then rise in the ATC undersink water heater tank and will be moved throughout the house through the heat-out pipe. Just like how it is with the gas water heater, the ATC water heater device such as the ATC 5 litre undersink water heater, will have a thermostat, temperature, and pressure relief valve.

In addition, the ATC undersink water heater will have a drain valve, an insulated water tank, and an anode rod. One of the only major differences between a gas water heater and an ATC water heater will be the fact that the water is heated by electric elements in the latter, and therefore needs to be plugged into a power supply.

ATC water heater Components

Here are the various parts that work together inside an ATC water heater to produce the hot water required. These components are common to both electric and gas heaters, with only a few differences that set them apart.

1. Tank

Most water heaters that are used in domestic spaces such as ATC water heaters (Ireland) come with an insulated tank which stores the hot water. These water heater tanks come in various sizes and hold anywhere up to 80 gallons of water. The ATC 10 litre undersink water heater for example has the capacity of 2.2Gal/10L.

What size of the tank a user considers usually depends on the number of people that are residing in the home who need hot water. An average household tank usually has a 40-60 gallon capacity.

2. Dip Tube

The dip tube is where the cold water from your home’s municipal supply, well, or another water source, enters the ATC water heater tank. Once you turn on the cold water tap, the water flows from the main valve through the cold water service line.

The water which comes through the hot water passes through the dip tube towards the tank. The dip tube is located at the top of the ATC water heater tank and the cold water enters here and is then heated from the bottom of the tank.

3. Heating Element

With an electric ATC undersink water heater, the water is heated within the ATC water heater tank by an electric heating element. If it is a gas water heater, on the other hand, a gas burner will be the heating mechanism. Both of these components are usually located at the bottom of the tank.

4. Anode Rod

The purpose of the anode rod is for safety purposes because it prevents the ATC water heater tank from rusting due to electrolysis. This means that the metal-coated steel rod (usually coated in zinc, magnesium, or aluminium) rusts instead of the steel lining of the water tank’s interior.

5. Thermostat

Most water heaters will have a thermostat on the outside that will allow you to measure and adjust the temperature of the water as per your requirements.

6. Heat-Out Pipe

This pipe is responsible for bringing hot water out of the tank to the hot water service line and it is located at the top of the water heater tank. As hot water has less density compared to cold water, the water that is the hottest will rise to the top of the tank.

7. Valves

There are three types of valves you should know about – the drain valve, the shut-off valve, and the pressure relief valve.

The drain valve is located near the bottom, outside of the tank and is used to drain out the sediment that builds up inside the appliance. The shut-off valve is also present outside of the water heater and is responsible for shutting off the flow of water into the tank when necessary.

Since the water inside of the tank is highly pressurized, the pressure relief valve has the function of preventing pressure from building up to a dangerous extent.

Why ATC Water Heaters Ireland are Essential

There are various reasons why an ATC water heater or ATC undersink water heater installation will be essential for your home.

Some of these reasons include always having warm water whenever it is needed and not having to wait for it. This is particularly useful in the cold winter months and also for daily domestic activities such as cooking food or washing dishes and clothes.

Other than that, an ATC water tank will help in conserving both energy and water and this will lead to helping in protecting the Earth. The main factor that aids in water preservation is that the user will not have to run the water for long before it gets hot so there will be less wastage.

In addition, a reliable water heater system that ATC water heaters such as the ATC 10-litre undersink water heater or ATC Z10-U undersink water heater can provide a strong sense of security. A good water heater means there is no need to stress about not having hot water in times of need at all times.
